If you have concerns about the possibility that you have dyslexia then it is probably a lot easier to find out than you thought. There are many successful people who have had dyslexia. Including business men, scientists, and politicians. This is not a problem that targets people by intelligence or status. Just about anyone can have it.

Currently there is no requirement for dyslexia testing in public schools. While they do screen for learning disabilities only about 10% of dyslexia cases are severe enough to fall in this category. Since there is not really a system in place to screen children for dyslexia a high percentage of cases will never be identified.

This has lack of testing has lead to a situation where it could be close to 90% of people that actually have dyslexia will never be diagnosed with it. The fact that there are so little measures in place to identify it makes it difficult to actually know what percentage of the population may have dyslexia.

Another factor that makes the presence of dyslexia easily over looked is that it frequently manifests with ADD. This leads to the ADD being recognized and the fact that the same person also has dyslexia will be completely missed. The attention problems that ADD causes make it very difficult to tell if there is an actual literacy difficulty or if the problem comes strictly from the ADD.

There are two basic types of adult dyslexia test online. These are the checklist based tests and the performance based tests. Often the checklist type tests will be free to take but are not very accurate. The performance based tests are a much more comprehensive test.

The performance based tests will compare your actual results against a comprehensive database. These tests are usually fairly accurate and can let you know if you should pursue further screening with a doctor. The only drawback of these tests is that there is usually a small fee that goes with them. It is far cheaper than a one on one consultation though and can let you know if you even need to pursue it further.

According to recent data that has been collected researchers believe that there may be as many as forty million Americans that suffer from dyslexia. Many of these cases being undiagnosed with the person that has it completely unaware of their condition.
